Chromebook 1:1 Initiative

Chromebook 1:1 Initiative

Regional School District 13's One to One (1:1) initiative spans grades 6 - 12. Students in these grades are given a Chromebook to use for the duration of their time at Strong Middle School and Coginchaug Regional High School. This initiative supports district student engagement goals as students will have the tools to research and collaborate with each other and with their teachers within each class and at home.
Coginchaug Chromebook Program

Coginchaug Chromebook Program

At Coginchaug Regional High School, 9th graders are issued new Chromebooks to be used all four years of high school. Students hold onto their assigned device and charger over the summer.
Strong Chromebook Program

Strong Chromebook Program

At Strong Middle School students are issued Chromebooks in grade 6 and return them at the beginning of grade 9, or when a student withdraws from the district. These Chromebooks are then tested, repaired, and reissued in working condition to the next incoming 6th grade. Students hold onto their assigned device and charger throughout the summer.
Student/Family Responsibility and Optional Protection Program

Student/Family Responsibility and Optional Protection Program

Students are expected to take care of their Chromebooks as they would any other Instructional Equipment. They are responsible for any damage they cause to their assigned device such as, but not limited to:
  • broken screens
  • broken keys
  • lost/broke power cord
  • chassis damage due to drops or abuse
  • broken USB and headphone ports
Students/parents are not responsible for normal wear and tear damage such as surface scratches, or for manufacturer defects.

School Year Chromebook Issues
The school's Library Media Center (LMC) is the first line of defense for any broken Chromebook. Student's with Chromebook issues will turn in the device to the school's LMC. The LMC which will generate a ticket for it to be serviced by the IST Department. In the meantime, the student will be given a loaner Chromebook to work on. Serious damage to a Chromebook will result in a repair invoice being sent home. To offset the potential cost of repairs the district offers a Chromebook Optional Protection Program. Full details of the program are sent home via ParentSquare at the start of the school year, or when a new student is enrolled in the district later in the year.

Summer Chromebook Issues
Summer repairs of Chromebooks are only offered to students actively participating in an RSD13 summer program. Summer program students must report all issues to the summer teacher. Students will be given a loaner to use while their assigned Chromebook is being repaired.

Chromebook issues that arise for students not actively participating in an RSD13 summer program must be reported to their school's LMC when the return in the fall.
